For many of us, we used to be able to hop out of the car, go straight to the first tee and rip a drive down the middle of the fairway. Now by skipping a warm-up before a round of golf may mean it takes us 4 or 5 holes before you loosen up and gain your form and by that time your score may already be ruined. Here is a quick and easy pre-round warm-up exercise to help you avoid those big numbers on the scorecard.

The point of a warmup is to elevate your heart rate to get your blood flowing to warm muscles so they are loose and supple to make it is easier to swing. You can do this warm-up at your house before your round of golf, if you don’t have a long drive to the golf course or on the driving range. Don’t be embarrassed to do the routine, it couldn’t more humiliating than topping your drive off the first tee.

There are many ways to warm-up like jogging, doing jumping jacks or even taking practice swings. Here are exercises that you can do with the Cardiogolf Slope to get warmed up before you play, practice or workout.

Today we focus on how Yoga can help your golf swing-

Although yoga  has been in the mainstream of general fitness for a few years now, golfers are just starting to consider this discipline to help improve their golf games. Many PGA Tour players such as Camilo Villegas and Vijay Singh have been practicing yoga for years now with dramatic results.

Triangle Yoga Posture (Trikonasana)

Although yoga has been in the mainstream of general fitness for a few years now, golfers are just starting to consider this discipline to help improve their golf games. Many PGA Tour players such as Camilo Villegas and Vijay Singh have been practicing yoga for years now with dramatic results.

Stand in a wide stance. Point your left foot straight as you point your right foot out to the side.
Extend your arms out to the side. Inhale deeply as you bend from your hip sockets and slide your right hand down to your ankle.
As you come into the pose, lengthen both sides of the torso evenly.
Continue to reach your bottom arm down and hold pose for 10 to 12 seconds breathing deeply.
Repeat pose on the opposite side

Your ability to create power comes from the ground up; from your feet, through your legs all the way to your arms and finally to the club. So you want to have a strong, flexible legs. You want to be able to take your muscles through their full range of motion. This exercise will not only improve your strength but will also challenge your flexibility in your lower body.

Side Lunge with Ball Roll-

Hold an exercise ball and get into a squat position.
Roll the ball laterally as you lunge to the side.
Keep your knee on the flexed leg over your foot as you extend the other leg through its full range of motion.
Extend your arms, pushing the ball away from you. Return to the start position and repeat motion on the opposite leg.
Do 8 to 10 repetitions on both legs.
The side to side motion and change of direction in this exercise is the same movement pattern needed for your weight shift.
